Teamsters Local 812 is on strike against Clare Rose, a privately owned Long Island beer distributor of Budweiser, Bud Light, and related brands to preserve good jobs and benefits in the beverage industry. The company has indicated that they plan to permanently replace these workers. The Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO is asking for our support on behalf of the 130 working families employed at Clare Rose.
This is why they are making the ultimate stand:
- A 30% Reduction in Wages
- Elimination of the Defined Benefit Pension Plan
- Elimination of a Long-standing Salary Continuation Program
- Elimination of Disability Payments
Clare Rose has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer-funded Industrial Development Agency benefits. Yet they chose to use out of state non-union labor to build their new headquarters in Melville and now they forced their workforce out on strike. Suffolk AME will be making a contribution, but as a show of solidarity, we are asking each of you to send some support as well. Consider taking up a collection at work and send a check to "The Local 812 Defense Fund." Please mail to either the LI Federation of Labor, 390 Rabro Drive, Hauppauge, NY or IBT Local 812, 445 Northern Boulevard, Great Neck, NY 11021. A rally has been set for June 30th, we will keep you informed of the details as they develop.
