Happy New Year to all of our BTA members. I hope that the new year is going well and that everyone is rested and refreshed after the holiday break.
With a new year, comes the enrollment time for excess medical coverage. I have also included the direct contact information for our insurance team, including our dedicated account manager, Karen Mclean. These should be used as your primary contacts for any questions you may have relating to excess medical.
We also have an important seminar coming up for our younger members. The Early Career Conference provides a great insight into the professional and personal services that you get as a NYSUT member. The conference is open to members who are in their first 5 years of teaching. I would encourage all eligible members to take part in this important conference. More information is provided below.
Excess Medical Coverage
It is that time when you have the opportunity to enroll in excess medical coverage.
The cost, which is a one-time fee, is $120 for a family plan and $50.40 for an individual plan. That is usually taken out of the last pay check in January or first in February.
I have attached a copy of the brochure.
Excess medical includes:
1. co-insurance reimbursement over a set amount
2. in-hospital private duty nurse
3. care in a nursing home
4. reasonable and customary reimbursement if theirs is great than Empire plan
5. $1,000,000 annual excess major medical expense benefits
6. Unlimited outpatient rehab for things such as PT, OT, speech therapy, inhalation therapy, and audiology evaluation
7. vision care benefits every two years (glasses and lenses)
If you are currently enrolled, they will be sending a second e-mail reminding you of that.
You can change coverage from individual to family, family to individual, add dependents, or cancel your enrollment at this time. So keep an eye out for that e-mail.
More information can be found in the plan brochure which can be downloaded by clicking here.
