Message from Negotiations Chair Melissa Anderson
After months of ongoing dialogue, the negotiations committee is happy to provide you with the following updates regarding the upcoming contract.
As is stipulated in the constitution of the Babylon Teachers Association, the negotiations committee will present any proposed new agreement with the School District to the Executive Board for endorsement. This will take place on Thursday May 28. It will then call a special membership meeting at which time a full explanation and written documentation will be made available to all in attendance. This will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at 3:15 PM in Rowe Hall.
Notwithstanding the quorum requirements for a general membership meeting under the by-laws, a quorum for this ratification meeting shall consist of fifty (50) percent of the members in good standing. Failure to meet this quorum shall require the rescheduling of this ratification meeting until the time a quorum is met. A secret ballot vote will be held no less than two (2) and no more than five (5) school days after the meeting in all buildings on whether to accept or reject the proposed agreement. This will take place on Friday June 5. This is a reminder that only active members participate in the vote. An active member is defined as one who is paying dues; therefore any member out on leave is eligible to vote only if continuing to pay dues.
We will once again use Election Buddy to carry out this process. Building reps may ask you to confirm your contact information prior to the vote on Friday June 5. If any of your information has changed, please reach out to your rep. We look forward to seeing you at the June 2 meeting in order to answer any questions you may have.
As negotiations chair, I would like to thank all the members of the committee who gave up hours after school to arrive where we are now. It is truly a pleasure to work with you and collaborate on our common goals. Any questions please ask and don’t forget to mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 2!
