The fiscal mismanagement in the Wyandanch and Hempstead School Districts have reached crisis levels. Fiscal instability of this magnitude puts student success at risk. It is not fair for these communities or our dedicated members who want the children of Wyandanch and Hempstead to have the schools they deserve.
This past legislative session NYSUT was successful in getting bills passed for these two districts, which would establish greater oversight in the form of fiscal monitors for Wyandanch and Hempstead.
These monitors would provide much needed transparency and oversight, as well as greater community engagement.
The bills are on the Governor's desk, and our members in Wyandanch and Hempstead need him to sign it.
NYSUT has launched an "email the Governor" campaign on our MAC Center, encouraging him to sign these much needed measures into law.
